The Overmountain Victory Trail Association, Toe River Watch, Spruce Pine Rotary Club, and McDowell Trails Association, in partnership with the National Park Service and local government leaders, are currently developing a Master Plan for the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail from Spruce Pine, NC to Lake James, NC. This study area aims to connect downtown Spruce Pine, the Museum of NC Minerals and Blue Ridge Parkway, NC Mountains-to-Sea Trail, Lake James State Park, and Lake James. Several alternative trail routes are being analyzed for feasibility of construction based on factors in the natural and built environments and the willingness of landowners to provide for the trail.
